contemplation

So I've been thinking, yes it hurt, about writing down all of the hilariousness that spews forth from The Girl Child's mouth. The problem with that is that as soon as it's published she'll say some more funny things and I'll wish that they were in it too. So maybe i should just keep collecting those gems and wait till she's a snarky teenager and then embarrass the crap out of her by publishing it then.

Your thoughts?

Also maybe I might have been contemplating turning this here sucker into a food blog, seeing as I've become ever more reclusive and there's only so much a hermit can actually write about.

Here's my first installment- Recipe for toast

1- get a toaster
2- plug in said toaster
3- put bread, any variety you'd like
4-push down the toaster button
5-wait
6-put cooked toast on a plate
7-top with butter, jam, nutella or other topping of chioce
8-eat

the year of the never ending truffles

75* I didn't realize just what a number it is. It's not really a lot of money, unless you're 8 or it's 1860. It is quite an age to reach. It's a C on a test. It's longer that two months. It's how much I spend at Costco every time I go. It's also the number of people for whom I am making Christmas neighbor treats. I didn't realize just how big that number was until I started actually making stuff. It has officially been the year of the never ending truffles.

So I decided to simplify this year. Only 2 things are going out on those neighbor plates, caramels and truffles. Those are my specialties and that's what everyone requests anyway- so it has been decided that there will be no dipping of pretzels, no ginger snap making, and no hot cocoa on a stick.

Now the hard decisions- eggnog or pumpkin for the truffles, and just regular, or regular and licorice caramels, which should I do?

*75 is the sum total of all of the people in the families, I am not crazy enough to attempt 75 individual neighbor gifts. This year anyway

Here we go again

The mother's day chocolates were a big hit... such a big hit that they were requested for a bridal shower for The Schroeder's nephew's fiancee - did you get the relationship there?

And I agreed.

So here we go again, luckily it's only 30 or so this time.

wish me luck

Want to make them yourself?

Mix together:
1 package oreo-type cookies-blended into a fine powder
(I love the Newman's own brand)
8oz cream cheese
refrigerate for at least 15 min
roll into balls-a melon baller is a good size.
Cover in melted chocolate-milk is the easiest to work with.
Refrigerate until set, store in freezer if not using immediately

mmm tasty

I don't like fish... its fishy. Fishy smelling, fishy tasting. Not so appealing to me.

Then I had fish tacos at Rubios (fish taco tuesday-they're 1 dollar).

I decided to try my hand at making my own. and they were so insanely tasty.

Aaron and Emma loved them (although they are good fish eaters-even salmon-yuck)

Aren't they pretty? They were so tasty too!

Fish Tacos

2-3 talapia loins cut in half
warm tortillas
1 lime
fresh ground salt and pepper
1-2 Tbsp olive oil
1/4-1/2 C sour cream
3-4 leaves of cabbage
*cool trick- roll up the leaves and cut them with scissors- it shreds them up so perfectly
(thanks mom)

Mix the lime with the sour cream, salt and pepper to taste, add the cabbage.
Dredge the fish through some salt and pepper, then fry until golden brown and crispy
*its best to use a non stick pan*
Place sour cream and cabbage mixture in the bottom of a tortilla
top with fish and Enjoy!
