Happy Memorial Day

I've had a fabulous taste of summer with this 4 day weekend, it was delicious.

As great as the "kickoff of summer" is, I realize that Memorial day isn't about parties or weekend trips, its about those soldiers who died while serving this country.

I was reminded of this when I heard Taps played. The mournful sound of that song made me so grateful that there are people willing to join the military. To face things I'd rather not face, or even know about sometimes, in the name of freedom. It humbles me to know that someone would fight for not only their own freedom, but for others who may not be able to fight for their own.

My big brother just returned home, safely, from Afghanistan, and for that I am very thankful. I realized though, that I'm not only thankful for his safe return, but thankful that he was brave enough to go, and leave his family for a year, endure hardships that I can't imagine and to top it all off come home a better man.

Even though he's my big brother, he is also one of my heroes.

  1. It usually takes me a few days to catch up with your blogs and I am glad I finally did. I really appreciate your thoughts and feelings. I often feel like I don't deserve the praise but I do appreciate it!
